In real life, they're separated by just 12 years, but in the upcoming film "That's My Boy," recently-departed "Saturday Night Live" star Andy Samberg plays former "SNL" regular Adam Sandler's grown son.?
"We're not (that far apart in age)," Samberg admitted during his visit with TODAY on the Plaza Friday. "It's the perfect script in that regard in that he had a child very, very young. I'm the result of an inappropriate teacher-student relationship."
Fortunately, the film spends very little time on that particular wrinkle, and instead focuses just on the childlike behavior of the dad, and how it affects his offspring. And working with Sandler, who is "one my heroes," says Samberg, was "the coolest."
Samberg also talked about his departure from "SNL" after seven seasons and over 100 digital shorts. "Nothing in particular I was moving on to," he said, "I sort of felt it like was time.... I'll come back any time they'll have me."
And, as Ann Curry noted, now the show will have to find someone else to play Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in the show's skits. "They'll need another cast member with the syllable '-berg' in their name," joked the comedian. "I've played at least three 'bergs' on that show."
Samberg returned later in the show to chat with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb:
